Why do you have the brakes on the Jackshaft instead of rear axle?

There are a couple reasons why. First there isn't much room for the caliper with the extra sidewall flex of the big tire, secondly the jackshaft spins twice as fast so it will have more brakes. Because of the extra heat generated you have to run a good performance brake fluid.

i thought brakes had to be on rear axle only not jackshaft? thought that was part of a rule change a couple yrs ago, atleast in super rules it says rear?

So I suppose a fella could run 2 calipers one on the axle and 1 on the jack shaft and still be legal to run and still get the extra assistance from the gearing Although with having to run 2 rotors would it be worth it ?

No It wouldn't be worth it, with a turf tire you would have enough brakes on the axle to lock up the rear tires.

Nothing in the rules saying you can't in outlaw. In case of a chain failure I still have more brakes on the front wheels then a supermod has on the whole machine. For other classes without front brakes yes it would be a problem.

I can't find anywhere where it says you can't run brakes on the jackshaft for any class?
