Hi everyone thanks for adding me to the form I’ve been racing mowers now for 3 years and love every part of it expecially meeting new people sorry for the rant on to my question.
I am building a 35 ci vanguard with 40 intek pistons our rules dictate that I have to use a stock briggs cam (38 cam) and stock induction (2bbl carb) I’m trying to figure out what to use for heads either the 30ci heads or the 38 ci heads we can do whatever we want to with the heads except alter valve sizes it is an ungoverned motor with an arc flywheel. any help or insite is greatly appreciated thanks.

Stock for stock the 38 heads will outflow the 35 heads but the 35 heads can be modified if done properly to perform exceptionally well. The 38 heads would be better suited for a high rpm engine with a camshaft but would work fine with the stock cam. The 30ci heads have the same valves and ports as the 35 heads but have a smaller combustion chamber, great for raising compression but sacrifices flow. With the intek pistons any compression ratio can be achieved with all three heads by milling the surface. Properly ported 35 heads will have the best bottom end and mid range with the 38cam in my opinion. The ultimate high hp high rpm engine will require 38 castings without a doubt. When you install the 38 cam make sure you retard it one tooth to make it more useful. Hope that helps
